A Midsummer Night's Dream - The Elements Of Magic
After a few filmed versions of Gala Performance due to Covid, S4A Annual Gala Performance is returning back on stage! Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, under the ‘Jockey Club “All The World’s Our Stage” Shakespeare Youth Drama Programme’, the annual gala performance is bringing to you all an adapted version of one of William Shakespeare’s most well-known comedy, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.
After the open audition in May, S4A has selected the Gala cast out of 300 auditions applicants. These selected students’ actors went through a month of drama training and rehearsals this summer, our cast of over 60 youths (age 8 to 15) is ready to showcase their performance to everyone on 7th (2:30pm & 7:30pm) & 8th(2:30pm) October, at Shouson Theatre, Hong Kong Arts Centre!
For this year Gala, S4A’s Artistic Director, Mr. Nicholas Beckwith has adapted ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, a masterpiece of William Shakespeare, into a setting of a magical world. With Asian 5-elements as inspirations, Mr. Beckwith has created an adaptation of the play into a 2-hour stage performance, accompany by a live youth orchestra, playing power ballads tunes from the 90s. With the outstanding performances of our students’ actors, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream – The Elements of Magic’ is definitely going to bring you into a land of magic and imagination.
