First and Ever - Battle of the Bards Final Contest
In celebration of S4A's 20th Anniversary, for the first time ever in Hong Kong, we introduced the 'Battle of the Bards' competition and the final contest was successfully held on the 3rd & 4th June.
'Battle of the Bards' is a dramatic performance competition that open to all students aged 8 to 18 years old. Students are allowed to choose from the categories of 'Monologues', 'Duologues' or 'Ensemble' - either battle out as solo (for 'Monologues') or with their friends (2-people for 'Duologues' or up to 10-people for 'Ensemble'). We aimed to let the students to be their own director and bring alive some of the greatest theatre pieces ever written by William Shakespeare, the bard himself. It is a competition about the students' interpretation and how they believe the scripts should be performed.
As we launched the contest, many students from across Hong Kong submitted their beautiful perfomance videos. It was challenging for Mr. Nicholas Beckwith, the Artistic Director of S4A to choose the outstanding finalists amongst all the talented youths.
On the 3rd & 4th June, all the finalists joined us at the Seminar Hall at Xi Qu Centre for their final BATTLE! Both event days were exciting and joyful! Family, friends, and teachers gathered together to witness the amazing performances of these young and shining youths on stage! It was such a thrilling experience for all! What a task for our panel of professional judges to choose the Champions for all three categories too!
