Story of Eunice
Hello, my name is Eunice! I am 15 years old and I was part of Shakespeare4All’s 2023 Gala performance, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream – The Elements of Magic”, as well as a school drama programme organised by S4A (S4A’s “Transformation Through Creativity” programme)
A little interesting fact about me: I am a total history geek! My favourite line from Shakespeare’s play is from “Measure For Measure”, which goes, “Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.” This has always been my motto.
Before joining S4A’s programmes, I was a part of my school’s English musical, but other than that, I did not have much acting experience. I joined because I was interested in improving my acting skills after being part of the school musical.

Looking back, my favourite moment during Gala was the rehearsal for the scenes featuring the Mechanicals, which helped us understand our characters better. The Mechanicals cast members had a fun time bonding and getting to know each other. It was really enjoyable.
Another very funny moment at the time was during one of the rehearsal sessions when my character had to do a dramatic and hilarious horse gallop. Although I felt a bit embarrassed to do so, I still tried my best and the other cast members erupted into laughter! I had to hold back my laughter really hard. After that rehearsal, that moment kind of became a meme among the cast members.
During rehearsals on stage, cast members often had to move stage sets together and most of the time had to stay quiet backstage. From this process, I learnt about teamwork and the professionalism of being an actor.
By the end of the programme, I was more open to criticisms and suggestions and I learnt how to do character study. Furthermore, I met wonderful people and formed special bonds with most of the cast members during the Gala.
My advice to all those who want to join S4A’s programmes? Be bold and creative–don't be afraid to ask questions!
